Team Experience

When you are in a team, every monster a teammate kills can pay experience to everyone standing near them. On top of that, having a genuinely low-level player in the party turns on a newbie bonus that doubles experience — this is the mechanic behind power-leveling.

Quick reference

MultiplierWhen it appliesWho gets it
×2 (newbie bonus)Someone in the team is 21+ levels below the monster and is near itThe killer and everyone receiving shared experience
×2The killer is your spouseThe receiver only
×2.5You are a Water Taoist, tier 3 or higherThe receiver only
×1.3You are 11+ levels below the monsterThe receiver only
×1.2You are 6–10 levels below the monsterThe receiver only
×1.2You have heaven's blessingThe receiver only
× Rainbow GemsRainbow Gems socketed in your gearWhoever wears the rainbow gems

These stack. A Water Taoist receiving shared experience from their spouse while a newbie is in the party is on ×2 × ×2 × ×2.5 = ×10 before gem bonuses.

How sharing works

Only the kill bonus is shared, not the damage experience.

  1. While you fight, you personally earn experience equal to the damage you deal.
  2. When the monster dies, a bonus pool is created worth 5% of the monster's maximum HP.
  3. That pool is paid to the killer and handed out to eligible teammates.

To be eligible for a share, at the moment of the kill you must be:

  • in the team (obviously),
  • on the same map as the killer,
  • within 32 tiles of the killer — about a screen and a half,
  • alive,
  • not cursed.

Everyone eligible gets their own copy of the pool, adjusted by their own multipliers. You are not splitting a fixed amount between five people — nobody loses experience by bringing more teammates.

The newbie bonus (power-leveling)

The server checks the whole team for a newbie: any living member, on the monster's map and within 32 tiles of the monster, who is 21 or more levels below it.

If it finds one, then for that kill:

  • the killer's kill bonus is doubled, and
  • every teammate's shared experience is doubled.

This is a team-wide switch, not a per-person one. One low-level character in range flips it on for the whole party, including high-level members who would otherwise get nothing special. Your chat box tells you when it fires:

You gained X team experience points with additional rewarding experience points due to low level teammates.

versus the plain message when it doesn't:

X team experience points gained.
